A Spicy Birthday

Hey’all
So in fitting fashion…two weeks again! I promise it is not from the hangover; although, for some it might be (cough, Arwin). It of course was another wonderful birthday. I mean any excuse to eat, drink, and party along the banks of the Danube, what can really go wrong. Also I am not sure if any of you are following the news but apparently there was a major election in Hungary a couple of weeks ago; and people have been partying along the river and in front of parliament ever since- well, you're fucking welcome. It was us. We invented it. We started it. You're welcome Budapest, and anyone who tries to say anything different is spouting fake fucking news!
Quick interlude: Also shoutout to Luige! Possibly the greatest volunteer we ever had. Ever. Period. It was also his birthday as well! So Happy birthday Luige!
Anyways, the party was fun, albeit even if we started a bit late. After a hectic morning changing beds and trying to organize the guests, and making sure people had at least a couch to sleep on (one group got scammed and kicked out of their airbnb. To be fair they were German, so as a Jew, I think they had it coming), we finally were able to coral everyone to Spar by 3:15. To put it into perspective my original idea was to leave between 1:00 and 1:30. We managed to arrive at the grill around four, so it was lucky that Arwin went a couple of hours before and was able to reserve one for us.
This is where my party differs from everyone else, and when I started to turn into a grouch. Sadly, out of the kindness of my heart; ok, ok, I completely forgot when I said yes, I agreed to go to the Buda side and lead a stag group back to a boat party. So I couldn’t really start to party, as I didn’t want to be drunk when I picked the group up. Also, because we all just got there people wanted to hang out before they all started to cook. Some people were even horsing around. Which is totally fine; but at six, when I had to leave, I didn’t get to eat yet and only had a couple beers… ok and a couple shots, hahah!
However, my spirits were relatively high as I thought I could quickly pick up the group and then come back. Well, as I was in contact with the group trying to coordinate where I would pick them up and how we were going to get to the boat, I slowly started to realize that all 19 of them, were completely fucked. In retrospect it was definitely a good thing that I wasn’t. I don’t know how many of you have ever led a stag group; well, spoiler alert, trying to pick up 19 people scattered around the Buda castle in different bars… not a quick task.
My patience as time was, in my head speeding the fuck on and I wanted to get back quickly, was slowly dwindling. Luckily, I did manage to get all of them; in a large part thanks to the best man, who yelled at the lot of them on the phone in a language he claims as English, but I’m just going to call it Scottish. To be fair to them, the walk to the boat was nice and easy and they were well behaved (not lads). Of course, coming from the Buda side it still took a good chunk of time. But I got them to the boat, checked them in, and they almost convinced me to stay for being the best guide.. Again, in retrospect, I probably should have done that. But, as I was itching to get back to the party and three hours had already elapsed, I politely declined…
Well, by the time I got back to Spicy’s birthday, everyone else was completely fucked… and the food was gone! AND ON MY BIRTHDAY…OF ALL DAYS! Needless to say I was pissed, and spent maybe 20 minutes more there cleaning up and then I took some bags back to the hostel.
Everyone else, or so I have been told, stayed out at the open mic and bar scene along the river. I have to say the city has really built this area up nice and I cannot wait to be hanging out here again this summer. Anyways, they partied until the wee hours, I slept; sure, it was a great fucking birthday hahaha. I can’t wait until next year.
Until the next time, you stay classy world
